Hello everyone, just posting a couple of my latest abstractions.

Upon creating these two images, I decided that I would play with space and how objects can direct the eye across an image.  Although these works were for learning purposes only, I've grown fond of the image on the bottom.  I wouldn't mind changing it up a bit and making it a mural or something.  Let me know what you think. ^_^
Thanks.

Brush Creation

Hey guys, over the week I got a chance to play with the brush tools.  If you saw my last post, you probably watched the video in the provided link.  In that video, it showed you the necessary steps needed to create your own brush.  Once you've mastered the steps, you will know how to take an image (preferably with a white background) and crop the portion you would like to use as a brush.  Once you've made the brush, you can edit the color and glow of the image. After doing that, feel free to play with the image using the blur tool and any other tool of your choice. Enjoy! ^_^

Marching Forward Into the World of Figure Drawing

As stated in my previous post, I am currently working on figure drawings.  Although figure drawings are not my cup of tea, i intend to challenge myself with it.  My most recent drawing is of a close friend of mine, I hope all of you enjoy, thanks for stopping by for another weekly update. ^_^

"Can You Raed Tihs"

During my graphic design class we discussed typography.  The study made by Cambridge University demonstrating that the human brain does not look at each letter of a word, but the word as a whole, was a very intriguing topic.  Their research shows that as long as the first and last letter of a word are in the correct location, our mind decodes the rest of the jumbled letters.

Experimenting With Figure Drawing

Figure drawing is not my cup of tea, however, I feel as though it is something I must do to expand my skills as an artist. For the next few weeks, I will attempt to improve myself in this area as I use the great master Rubens, as inspiration.  Although I am aware of the fact that I will in no way, shape, or form be comparable to that great master, I will be able to appreciate his techniques.  Please look forward to seeing my well intended, yet poorly executed, figure drawings in the near future.

Using Rubens As Inspiration

Peter Paul Rubens:

The two images above are drawings created by the great master, Peter Paul Rubens.  I am currently using these two images as inspiration as I advance in my drawing 3 class this trimester.  We are currently learning how to draw the figure, which is something I am terrible at; hopefully with these images in the back of my mind, I will continue to dive into my drawings and pick myself up each time I fall. ^_^

Chaotic Abstract

This painting was made with Acrylic paint on BFK paper.

I created this image as a challenge to myself to learn more about abstract art.  My teacher, Ms. Chatham Kemp, suggested that I begin my journey by generating interesting shapes and by using various shades of black, white, and gray.  In the end, I spent roughly 9 hours on the project and feel as though I greatly benefited from the experience.  Not only did I learn how visually powerful chaos can be in a painting, but the effects it has on people.  Some individuals that I showed the painting to felt overwhelmed by the chaotic expressions of the mass of bubbles in the upper left hand corner; Other individuals weren't affected at all by the image. I suppose some people enjoy chaos more than others.  Personally, I view chaos as a friend.  There is no escape from chaos, whether in art, or in day to day activities, one must learn to cope with chaos.
